Dr. John Breeding, Ph.D. Psychologist, talks about depression. In this video he discusses the how psychology and psychiatry differ from their approach to depression. Is depression really a chemical imbalance in the brain or a psychological problem? Often time people are given antidepressants like Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, Luvox, Celexa, Lexapro, Effexor or Wellbutrin. SSRI (Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) are often promoted as correcting chemical imbalances in the brain but there is no proof that depression or mental illness is caused by chemical imbalances in the brain nor is there any proof that antidepressants correct an imbalance. These medications often time have horrible side effects like agitation and sexual dysfunction. This is a different view of depression. In this video Dr. Breeding will discuss tips on how to recover from depression, become a more happy person. this respectful man has very good points, and my father takes anti depressing tablets so i might research myself a bit before actually going on the quest to negotiate my dad that he can be more happy without it. The reason why im interested in the subject of depression is because my family has a background of it, and i don’t want it to fall a victim of depression. Last year, in 2009 unfortunately i was terribly depressed and i realized that i was holding myself back, that my mind was the enemy

I suffered from chronic depression my whole life. I received therapy and drug treatments. With Effexor I finally found some relief. I discovered Cognitive Therapy, which addresses your thought processes, and that helped as well. Depression IS real, because it kills people. It isn’t a mood swing, it destroys lives. If you suffer from depression, whatever you do, take it seriously and don’t let people tell you that it is “part of life.” It is a serious and dangerous mental condition.

Oh, and I would like to give a suggestion for people to trust at psychiatry:
1.make an appointment. I dare you to leave the room without a prescription.
2. Look for any healing case.
3. Talk to someone who spent more then a year under treatment. You’ll see that what is happen is lottery. They fill people with many combinations of drugs until the desired effects arises. Tell me about science.

You have all my respect for what you say. I take the risk to say I do now what you are talking about. I had my cry for help to psychiatry, but that would be a long talk.
I think the point of all videos of this Dr. John Breeding is about the dangerous generalization. I would recommend to take a look at the other videos of him, specially “the truth about mental illness”, or something, where he describes how mental illness is defined currently.
Wish you truthfully the best.

Medication is definitely not the cure, but sometimes it’s necessary in order to motivate the depressed person to find the cure. I’ve been depressed for quite a while, and I know for a fact that I would not have made the progress I have made without an antidepressant to help clear the fog a little. People who haven’t had depression can’t understand how horrible that fog is. But I definitely do not want to take these my entire life.

I’ve been depressed my whole life and never really know it. I just looked at some pictures of me as a little kid the other day and said to myself “Damn, that is one sad kid.” … Looking back over the years, it was great. The few times in my life where “insanity” rose me up were epic and seemingly spiritual. It’s sort of like being tortured and then pampered. One feels so much better only because of the other, but if you have one without the other, it just isn’t the same.

Uptown, where did you get your phd from; the back of a box of corn pops ?
I’ve dealt with “depression” for years. and I’ve tried many different medications so I know from personal experience Dr. Breeding knows his trade.
Having said that, I wouldn’t hesitate to pop a benzo if I had a huge panic attack. And I’ve taken medication before that did help by diminishing symptoms.
As I see it. the common theme in Dr Breedings videos is that psychiatry is a pseudo science & meds aren’t the cure

The number of views this quack gets is really scary. Don’t trust a serious mental illness to vitamins and quackery. Mental illness does exist and it can be dangerous in its severe forms.

If you need to be self medicated to cope its a start but be aware that dependancy will increase the symptoms so while your smoking weed take some time to self asses important goals and personal goals to feel fulfilled.

Its true your chance of a mental break go up with meds. Mental cracks or fissures start to happen I believe %99 based on environmental concerns and anxiety. Its important to have a postive outlook on life Goals and self motivation to accomplish tasks. Which is if you have cancer death in the family’s or other learned behaviors such as loss or disillusionment. Its important to asses private or personal goals to become aware of fulfillment. WHICH IS TOTALLY LACKING IN US SOCIETY.

theres not really a way to react to depression. its more something that happens as you watch. (depending what form depression has taken) i have been fighting my way through alone mostly. and im starting to feel better. but ive had to do and say things to people. and had to turn my back on some people. ahh well im tired and these ear phones have been in my ears for ages and its starting to hurt.. 5;13 in the morning and im yet to sleep.

again run out of space.there are many forms of depression. theres feeling sad. as you said. where you just feel things are going wrong. and everyone goes through that. its nothing seriousbut you do get some mre serious forms. its basially the same. but the causes would be more extreme. like could loes your job. could make u feel a little depressed. more extreme. is like loesing a business and going bankrupt. loesing your pet. then theres loesing your wife.

sorry run out of space. depression affects all in different ways. some hardge through rushing life. some show signs of lerthagy. (excuse the spelling) some cause pain to them selves. and some just end their life entirly. i know im repeating alot of what you sauid but still im in the mood to type. and this is the most worthy thing to type about. i have suffered from depression for a long time. allthough not being diagnosed. u dnt need to be. you know how depression feels.

depression is nothing chemical at all. it is an emotional imbalence that an be triggured by certain traumers in life(excuse the spelling) i think all anti depressants do is realese endorphians. to give you a false sense of happiness. allthough that can help stall depression. ur mind still knows how u feel and could eventually get alot worse. people do misunderstand depression. people commenly think it is a mental illness. its not. depression is atually in that normal box.
